How the boat Thalassa in Paris was reinvented to make it a unique place

Boat Thalassa Paris

The Thalassa boat in Paris is not an ordinary barge: it is a piece of French audiovisual history that has now found a second life as a place of restoration, conviviality and social transformation in the heart of the 15th arrondissement. At Quai Liberté, this mythical boat, formerly associated with the program Thalassa, has become an engaged restaurant in Paris where gastronomy, guinguette atmosphere and social impact meet. ✨

From the TV show Thalassa an iconic place on the Seine

The story of the boat Thalassa Paris

The adventure of the boat Thalassa begins with the TV show of the same name. Created in 1975, Thalassa is a French documentary series dedicated to the sea, its trades, its stakes, and broadcast for decades on France 3 under the impulse of Georges Pernoud, emblematic figure of the program.

To accompany filming and production, a houseboat-studio was first installed on the Seine in Paris, before Georges Pernoud pushed the idea of building a barge designed specifically for the show in the 1990s, with filming spaces, offices and recording studios.

Over the years, this atypical place has become a symbol of conviviality and curiosity, obviously linked to the maritime adventure told every week on television.
